Member Testimonials

“I have learned so much from this generative, process-oriented, and open model of leadership.  Being a member of Paisley Studios has allowed me the expanse of time in my practice. Encountering other artists in their practice and building slow relationships with each other. The light-filled space with room to be messy alongside community care and responsibility. And the intersectionally-feminist practice, and ownership, of being an artist. All of this, and more, allow for a deepening and widening of my practice.  Over my time at Paisley, my work has been given more time to evolve, and to be what it is ready to become. I feel very grateful for this space.”

She goes out of her way to make it a lovely place to create in and I feel fortunate that I get to share such a nice studio with other interesting artists.”

“As a child, I suppressed most forms of artistic expression because I was worried about the end result being judged imperfect. As an adult, I was accepted into a competitive MFA in Fiction Writing program, only to have my voice stifled and even mocked by the all-male faculty. My purpose in finding a studio space was simple: I needed a place where I could become comfortable stumbling through my own process of artistic discovery to build confidence in my innate expressive style. Bonnie's studio has sped up my process of self-discovery and allowed me a space I have never had before where I can authentically engage and explore my identity. The other artists I've met in the space are incredible and inspiring, but also seem to respect that I'm on my own journey. I am overcome with gratitude that I have a safe, supportive space.”

Joining this studio space was one of the first things I did when I moved to Portland and it immediately gave me a peaceful, creative and communal space to dive into my painting. I'm grateful for a studio that's filled with such supportive and innovative energy, as well as for the artists that I've been able to learn from.

“Paisley Studios is a beautiful, collaborative, accepting and cooperative space. Being part of the studio community has propelled my practice forward because I feel supported in creating authentic and honest work. Bonnie is a creative visionary: the community she has fostered is quietly revolutionary. The space is truly accessible and challenges negative patriarchal and capitalist structures around art making.”
